Common synthesis methods for preparing aluminum nitride powder
At present, many methods are used to prepare aluminum nitride powder, such as direct nitridation of aluminum powder, carbothermal reduction of aluminum oxide, sol method, self propagating combustion method, plasma composition method, decomposition method of polymer containing ALN bond, chemical vapor stacking method, water induced solid phase reaction method, sol gel method, etc. Below, the editor will introduce the commonly used composition methods for aluminum nitride powder.
1) Aluminum powder direct nitriding method
AlN+N2 → 2AlN Place the aluminum powder in a reaction furnace filled with nitrogen and ammonia gas and heat it to 600 ℃ to initiate the reaction. This is a simple and straightforward method that can be used to form many high-purity ALN powders without any side effects. It is now being produced on a large scale.
However, this method is generally difficult to obtain aluminum nitride powder with fine and uniform particle size, and post-processing is generally required. The formation of an ALN layer on the surface of AL particles after nitriding will prevent the dispersion of nitrogen gas towards the center of the particles, so the conversion rate is also a major concern when using this method.
2) Carbon thermal reduction method of alumina
The method of Al203+3C+N2 → 2AlN+3CO is now widely used in industrial production, and its research has been compared and deepened.
Calcium oxide, calcium fluoride, yttrium oxide, and other catalysts are commonly used in the preparation of aluminum nitride powder in this method. Among them, the addition of calcium fluoride is more effective in reducing activation energy and improving reaction rate. This type of prepared aluminum nitride powder has high purity, good formability and sintering performance, but high composition temperature, long reaction time, and large powder particle size.
